Mission Statement

We believe that every person is deserving of love and compassion, regardless of their circumstances.

By offering a helping hand to those in need, we hope to spread the message of God’s unconditional  love and grace.

We are here to love, to serve, and to give.

"I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me."

-Matthew 25:36

Who We Are

The Mission was founded in 1965 by Reverend J.A. Gaines, his wife, Reverend Rose Marie Gaines, and her mother, Florence E. Meringola. After witnessing local poverty conditions first hand, they invested everything that they had with the view that if they could help even one person it was worth the investment. They worked very hard and sacrificed much to build a strong community and leave a great legacy to be carried on. Their prayer was for the HHRM to remain a "lighthouse" in our community. We are moving forward with their vision today.

60 Years Later

We are a faith-based organization whose work continues under the direction of the founders’ daughter, Rev. Kim Gaines-Gambino who functions as the President/Pastor of Helping Hand Rescue Mission. She also served as Pastor of Half Hollow Community Church in Dix Hills, New York from 2011-2019. She resigned from that position in January of 2020 to devote more of her time to the work of HHRM. Since that time our outreach has grown and is thriving under her leadership.

Kim  is a loving wife to her husband Andrew and loving mom & stepmom to five amazing “kids” Drew (31), Mattison (28), A.J (26)., Heather (24) & Gianna (16).

Kim has a heart of love for God & for people and enjoys writing, cooking and spending time with her family including their precious Doodle Einstein.

Kim Gambino is available to speak to your organization about the beautiful work of HHRM. She's available for women's retreats and church events as well. Her message is timely and inspiring.
